The museum opened in 1983 with the exhibition "Life as a feat." A few years later, a permanent exhibition was formed, consisting of three exhibition halls and a memorial room. The room contains Nikolai Ostrovsky's personal belongings, books, newspapers and magazines, letters to friends, etc.

Other works of the house-museum contain works of the writer published in the USSR and abroad. Among them, a special place is taken by Ostrovsky's most outstanding book, How the Steel Was Tempered, signed by the author himself. A separate exposition is devoted to the literary life of Novorossiysk in the period from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day. This hall often hosts literary evenings and creative meetings dedicated to the memory of Nikolai Ostrovsky.

Ostrovsky Museum is always glad to see interested representatives of the younger generation. Therefore, on the first Wednesdays of each month from 10:00 to 17:00 children under the age of 18 can visit the memorial for free
