From now on every traveler who has gone to Greece can eat at local restaurants for a lower price than before.
From August 1 in Greece has a new VAT rate on the restaurant business. If earlier it was 23%, today it fell to 13%. On this measure the authorities of the country went in the hope to revive the gastronomic sector and give an additional impetus to the development of the Greek tourist industry. At the same time, Greek tax officials made it clear to local restaurateurs that the automatic price reduction in the menu should be carried out in an imperative form: if this does not happen, the VAT rate will again rise to the same level.
We remind that the Greek government, desperately trying to pull out the country from the protracted financial crisis, is making a serious bet on the tourism business, whose share in the local economy exceeds 15%. The first results have already been achieved: in the current summer season the Greek tourist industry has practically reached the pre-crisis level.
