Add a review about the House of Kammertzel

The house of Kammertzel can certainly be considered the most famous private mansion of Strasbourg. This is a half-timbered house, but it is so richly trimmed and refined that it does not even look like a half-timbered house. The house stands on the cathedral square and you, as soon as you can tear yourself away from the contemplation of Strasbourg Cathedral, surely pay attention to it.

Each of the 75 windows is framed by a skilful artistic and very detailed carving.

Initially, the Kammertzel House was built in the first half of the 15th century, in the second - it was rebuilt and only in the late 16th century it became what it became: the basis for a surprisingly careful carved wooden decoration . By the time period, its architectural style can be attributed to the late Gothic, and in style to the Renaissance . However, the style itself does not matter at all by the . value. There are amazing stained-glass windows with glass of a specific shape with a total of 75 . Each of the windows is framed by a skilful artistic and very detailed thread: sculptural images of evangelical characters and mythological creatures, zodiac symbols and allegorical figures .

Once this medieval building was not much differentiated and was acquired by a well-to-do merchant. From the original building was left only the first gothic arched floor, where they organized a shop, while the upper three and the maisonette were completely redone. In the middle of the 19th century, the house was purchased by a Würzburg merchant whose name was later given to the building. Today, the Kammertzel House is a protected architectural monument.

The Kemmerzel House has a 3-star hotel of the same name and restaurant, the halls and salons of which are located on different floors. The menu is predictable: foie gras, bekoff, flammcukhen, shukrut.

The house occupies a corner position on the square, and just the finishing of the supporting beam of its corner was given special attention. There you can see three allegorical figures of Faith, Hope and Love with Christian attributes and symbolic beings. In addition to wooden sculptures, you should pay attention to the stone floor and interesting contours of the steep tiled roof. In addition, the frescoes of the late 19th - early 20th centuries in the Rhine picturesque style, the original wooden beams with ceilings and the spiral staircase of the 15th century were preserved inside.
