The Holy Dormition Cathedral is considered the main temple of Novorossiysk. It was erected in 1904 on the territory of the cemetery, and therefore the monastery was called the Assumption cemetery church. In the late 30's. The Holy Dormition Cathedral was closed due to political events. He resumed his work in 1942, but the following year the temple was heavily bombarded by German opponents. After the war, the monastery was reconstructed, and the temple's activity was resumed.
In 2011, a new test fell on the fate of the Holy Dormition Cathedral. In the main hall of the temple there was a strong fire. Due to malfunctions with wiring, ancient icons and liturgical books were irretrievably burned and lost. All the interior decoration of the temple was badly damaged by fire. The Holy Dormition Cathedral was reconstructed literally by the whole world - on the donations of Orthodox and not indifferent to the misfortunes of the people. The shrine managed to be brought back to life, and today its doors are open for believers and tourists.
Divine services in the Holy Dormition Cathedral are held daily, but excursions are not provided here. On the territory of the temple there is a military hospital building, as well as economic and cell buildings.
The monastery has its own Sunday school and a library. The library, which, incidentally, contains not only books but also Orthodox films and audio recordings, can be visited daily from 10:00 to 18:00.
