Kerch Art Gallery was opened in 1985, but its history began long before this momentous event . In 1967 . one of the future founders of the gallery N . I . Booth completed the cycle works "Adzhimushkay . 1942", consisting of 29 paintings, a lot of sketches and drawings . The exhibition of his works traveled to different cities, a year later received a permanent residence permit at the Historical and Archaeological Museum . In 1985 this cycle became the basis to create an art gallery . Since that time, the museum's funds have been constantly were replenished with new works by local artists and archaeological finds related to art .
The museum exposition
The Gallery presents art and culture items dated by period from ancient times to our days. Examining the exhibits, you will get acquainted with the history of Kerch, the traditions and way of life of its inhabitants, penetrate into the very soul of the city and feel what Kerch lived through the centuries.
The central place of the gallery, like a decade ago, is occupied by works of the cycle "Adzhimushkai. 1942, "showing the descendants of the dedication and strength of the spirit of the heroes of the war. Considering these pictures illustrating the tragic military events, it is impossible to remain indifferent, the audience leaves the gallery shocked, wanting to learn more about the events of those years.
In addition, the picture gallery offers visitors to get acquainted with the diorama "Temple of John the Baptist" and admire the copy of the mosaic of the cathedral St. Peter's "Christ Pantocrator", presented by Pope John Paul II to Mikhail S. Gorbachev
great cultural value is the building itself, which exhibits art gallery housed. This is an elegant two-story mansion in the style of classicism with a four-columned portico. The building was built in the early 19 th century, it is part of the ensemble of the Great Mithridates staircase and is recognized as an architectural monument. In 1985, by the fortieth anniversary of Victory Day, the old building was restored and is still maintained in excellent condition.
