Every year more than 25 thousand . people come to the Karadag Nature Museum located in the vicinity of Koktebel, in Kurortnoye settlement . His story began in 1914 ., practically at the same time as the Karadag scientific station . The first exhibits of the museum fit in two cabinets placed on the ground floor in the laboratory complex . Two years later a group of students from Yekaterinburg visited the museum, and in the 1920s . the research activity of the museum became steadily To develop . From time it expanded museum collections, adding new exhibits and 1970 years .in the collection there were already more than 1 thousand . geological and about 200 biological exhibits, as well as a few stuffed birds . The museum staff also focused on educational activities: there were fascinating lectures, thematic seminars and meetings attended by schoolchildren and students .

Every year more than 25 thousand people come to the Karadag Nature Museum, located in the vicinity of Koktebel, in the village of Kurortnoye.

In the beginning of the 21st century the museum was waiting for a reconstruction, during which it was significantly modernized. The renovated museum opened its doors to visitors in 2004

Museum exposition

The exhibition space of the museum covers an area of ​​103 sq. M . m and is divided into several thematic sections: historical, geological-mineralogical, land and marine biosphere . Attention is paid to the natural features of the Karadag mountain range . As an introduction, visitors are invited to study the map-mock-up "Karadag and its environs" . The exposition of the historical section tells about the most important milestones of the scientific institution, at the foot of the mountain . Here are collected historical photographs, books, biographical materials about the staff of the station .

The geological and mineralogical section in details represents samples of rocks characteristic for Karadag, both sedimentary and volcanic. The Karadag mountain range is a real mineralogical pantry. Visitors to the museum can study the diversity of minerals in the group of zeolites, varieties of quartz, chalcedony, carnelian. Samples of sedimentary rocks are fairly well represented in the collection: sandstones, clays, gypsum, etc.

The section of the exposition devoted to the overland part of the reserve tells about the features of the plant and animal life of Karadag, which is diverse, despite the unfriendly outward landscapes. Here, in reference to the habitat area, there are collected stuffed animals of local mammals and birds, amphibians and reptiles, butterflies are widely represented, as well as a peculiar Crimean flora. Special importance is given to rare and protected species.

Much of Crimean nature is not available for a leisurely observer or is characteristic only for certain times of the year. The exposition of the museum reveals such unobtrusive pages of Karadag, helping to get acquainted with the world of its protected nature.

The excursion will also allow to prepare for further journey along the ecological path of the Karadag nature reserve - this unique corner of the wild nature of the Crimean mountains.
