This mosque is decorated by the embankment of Evpatoria. It is called the masterpiece of Islamic architecture of the 16th century. This mosque is the largest two-minarets not only in Ukraine, but also the only multi-domed mosque in Europe. For the Crimean Khanate, Juma-Jami was one of the main, and its example was the famous St. Sophia Mosque in Constantinople.
Juma-Jami is unusual: a huge dome surrounds 12 smaller domes, and on the sides are high, 30 meters, minarets. The minarets are much younger than the mosque, they were recreated in the late 20th century according to historical materials
What was the purpose of the mosque? Here was a rite of initiation into the Crimean khans. After that, the new khan signed a special act and left it for safekeeping in the mosque. Then the ruler went out to his subjects and claimed that he was supposedly a new khan. And then went to Bakhchisaray, to his capital.
By the way, in the fence of the mosque - the graves of officers of the Ottoman Empire, who died in the 18-19th centuries during the Russian-Turkish wars.
In order to maintain Juma-Jami in proper form, to conduct a large restoration. After it, for more than 20 years, the mosque once again became operational and receives visitors.

As for visits, everything is much stricter here than in the Christian Cathedral of Nicholas, which is also nearby and very attracting the attention of tourists. The adjoining park of the cathedral is open for visiting, people freely pass to the church and the garden. The mosque gate was usually locked ... Read full review

Last year my friends and I drove by car from the New World to the Western Crimea - to Tarkhankut. We drove through Evpatoria and decided here to make a small halt for an hour - take a break from the way, relax a little. So they went to the promenade along the Yevpatoria embankment. Walking on it with a meter from 300, we saw a little further away something like a turret, barely visible. A little further we began to see more clearly the large-scale object, between the towers there was a wide circular dome. Oh yeah, it's the same ... Read the whole review
