The rocky cape of Ilya in the Feodosiya Bay has more than once caused a shipwreck. In order to designate a place dangerous for seafarers, in the beginning of the 19th century a chapel of St. Elijah was erected on the top of a stone beach. The ships sailing past the ship were guided by its dome-topped cross. But it is not known how long the chapel lasted, and also why it disappeared from the cape at the end of the century.
The first lighthouse was made of wood, a primitive device served the sailors until 1912. Then the building was altered, and during the war the tower was partially destroyed.
The modern lighthouse on the cape of Ilya rises above sea level by 65 meters. The height of the snow-white construction is 15 meters. The round tower was modernized in 2006, the light-optical module was placed in the lamp cylinder, so the continuity of the lighthouse's operation is now determined by electronics.
