The Aquitaine Enoah is a small village that dates back to about the 12th century . In the Hundred Years War, Enoas was captured by the British, and again it became French only in the middle of the 15th century . Situated almost on the very border with Spain, Enoia witnessed many shocks military period; in particular, during the Thirty Years War in the 17th century it was completely destroyed (only the church survived and only one house) . But from the mid-19th century life here flows a peaceful, calm and measured . despite the fact that the village is worth on the pilgrimage route of St. James (on that branch of it that comes from Bayonne to Pamplona) .
Enoia is territorially related to the northern (French) Basque Country and differs from other Basque settlements in that it can be called one of the most homogeneous , untouched traditional villages. Of course, there are also modern areas here. But the center of Enoia is the quintessence of the border culture, where French and Spanish motifs blend in.
How to get to Enoia
Most of the tourists get here from Biarritz airport (the second option is to go from Bordeaux airport), and then on your own car. From the nearby Espeleta (just over 6 km) to Ennoa, a bus runs several times a day, and to Espeleta itself can also be reached by bus from Anglet and Biarritz Airport.

The city church of the Immaculate Conception, which was built in the 13th century and remade in the 16th-17th centuries, is noteworthy. In addition, since 1996 the church is considered a historical monument because of its unique interior. Here still remains a beautiful altar and marvelous frescoes.
The old church churchyard is especially interesting: today it is possible to see gravestones of a specific round shape . These are the so-called Hilarari (in the translation from the Basque - "stones of the dead"), , which are flat steles resembling a stylized keyhole or simply on a disk . On the round part of the tombstones a symbolic form usually shows a sun sign: the swastika, the solar symbol, or the . Neighborhoods Around 7 km away from the village is located Ainhoa Sar. Its main attraction is the underground caves that once inhabited the troglodytes.
