A bit of history
Historically, there was a settlement of Venetians, Celtic people, people of the sea. Then the Romans built a city here, where in the 5th century a local government appeared. In 1759 Vannes was used as a starting point for the planned invasion of the French into Britain. Until the 19th century, trade flourished in the city due to its favorable location near the sea, however, then it came to naught. Today about 50 thousand people live here, and tourism is one of the sources of well-being.

Entertainment, excursions and attractions Bath
Baths consists of two cities: the upper and lower. The upper, modern, rather animated, is distinguished by the proper layout, the lower one is a nice medieval chaos of wooden buildings standing in bent ones do not understand as alleys. The medieval part of the city is still surrounded by a wall with fortified gates, clearly separating the "top" of the Bath from the "bottom". Tourists, of course, are more interested in walking along the "bottom" with its half-timbered houses of the 14-15th centuries, old gates, laundry, cathedral and church.
- See "Bath and his wife" , an amusing painted sculpture made of granite, made in the 15th century. A couple is placed on the wall in front of Chateau Gallary
- Ride a boat along the Morbihan Bay to admire all its countless islets and straits.
- Photograph the laundries on the waterfront. They look very picturesque and old, although in fact they belong to the maximum to the 18th century.
- If there is enough energy, walk from the city port along the tree-lined avenue to the popular port and cape in Conlo (several kilometers).
Gothic cathedral St. Peter was built on the site of an earlier Romanesque cathedral . Its construction lasted from the 15th century to the 19th century, and if we add here the period of the Romanesque bell tower (from the 13th century), then the period is quite considerable . In the middle of the 19th century the facade was carved in neogothic . style of the main entrance you can see the statue of St. Vincent Ferrer, a Dominican friar from Valencia, who in the 15th century had a significant influence on the development of Christianity in Bath and was buried in the cathedral .The north facade overlooks the cloak garden and Cannon Street, and its beautiful transept is built in the late blazing Gothic style (early 16th century) and is decorated with twelve niches that were created to hold the statues of the apostles .The cross installed on the cathedral dates back to the 15th century and it was taken from the cemetery . In the interior you can see artfully made stained-glass windows, several ornately decorated chapels and the sculpted main altar .
The old city walls are very well preserved from Roman times and consist of several parts. This is first and foremost the imposing medieval tower of Concable, one of the symbols of the city. It stands in the eastern part of the walls, facing the Garenne Plateau. The tower consists of five floors: artillery casemates were arranged in the lower tiers, but the upper ones were meant for life, so that in each of their rooms you can see large windows and fireplaces.
Also part of the fortifications is the old Ermin Castle, which in the 17th century was turned to the palace. In the 14-16 centuries, the château was the residence of the Breton dukes, but later the order collapsed. In the 18th century it was rebuilt from the ruins in a more or less the same condition, and here the hotel was opened. Today, the castle hosts exhibitions and concerts, and a beautiful garden surrounds it.
Even in the fortifications, Bath includes four medieval gates and one 18th-century gate - Saint Vincent and Ferre, the main entrance to the city. The latter are beautifully decorated in the style of Italian baroque, in the upper part there is a statue of a saint, created in the 17th century. Of the medieval, the most colorful looking Porte gates are the most popular.
The second important church of Bath Saint-Patern was built in the 11th century and dedicated to the city's first bishop. By the beginning of the 18th century the church was in a very bad condition, and after the hurricane in 1726 the bell tower collapsed, so a major restoration was required at the end of the century. Despite the external simplicity, the interior of the church is rich enough, and here you can see including the old chapels (the oldest, St. Isidore, dated 1690). And the square in front of the church in the summer is often occupied by musicians.
In the Bath has its own aquarium, not too big, but curious. In bad weather, a visit to the aquarium can be combined with a visit to the butterfly garden - also quite small. This is a covered greenhouse with a tropical forest and an abundance of cognitive information for children.
The Museum of Archeology, right on the Place Saint-Pierre, is occupied by the old Gályar Castle. The castle was built in the 15th century and well preserved. At one time it met Parliament Bretoni. After inspecting the museum you can go up to the third floor and look at the interiors. And in the museum itself you can admire paintings and other art objects, archaeological finds and natural curiosities. The museum works from the middle of May to the end of September
And the Museum of Fine Arts is located in an old medieval cellar where flour and food were stored. Later this same room was used both as a food market, and even as a seat of the parliament. This ancient building is interesting in itself, and its history can also be learned when visiting the museum. The museum has a collection of 19th-century paintings, sculptures and engravings, and holds temporary exhibitions.
You can briefly part with the Old City and move to the northwest to look at the more modern significant buildings Bath. For example, the City Hall, a very impressive building of the college next to it and the "Hotel de Limoure" of the 16th century
Conlu City Beach located three kilometers from the center, and it is quite suitable for swimming. There is all the necessary infrastructure and several restaurants, so there is often a lot of people here. This is not the most beautiful beach in the Morbihan bay, but you can reach it by public transport.

Neighborhood Bath
During the excursion around the bay it is worth to visit several specific islands. For example, the Monastic Island, where tropical palm trees and Mediterranean citrus grow. Or the island of Gavrinis, where you can explore prehistoric dolmens, or rather even cairns, as they are interconnected.
If you prefer to explore the "land" neighborhood, then you should look into the ancient Ore; look at the 13th century Susiño Castle, former residence of the Breton Dukes, and a small coastal Arzon with prehistoric stone formations.
